Depart the UK
Take your flight from the UK to Madrid. Meet your coach and driver upon arrival and transfer to your hotel.
Spend the full day in Madrid where you will have a walking tour in the morning. Visit the Royal Palace and then in the afternoon the fantastic art gallery Musei de Prado.
Today you can walk to Herzog & de Meuron’s Caixaforum and then onto Museo Rein Sofia. Alternatively, you could spend the full day in the Warner Bros Theme Park.
Travel to the airport for your return flight to the UK.
Madrid Royal Palace
The Royal Palace of Madrid is the official residence of the Spanish royal family, although it is now only used for state ceremonies and the royal family live in a more modest building, at the Palace of Zarzuela on the outskirts of Madrid. The palace has several rooms which are regularly open to the public except during state functions. Art students will love the interior of the palace, which displays art treasures and paintings by artists such as Caravaggio, Juan de Flandes, Francisco de Goya, and Velázquez. Your students can also view the other collections of artistic and historical importance including the Royal Armoury of Madrid, porcelain, watches, furniture, silverware, and the world’s only complete Stradivarius string quintet.
Museo del Prado
Your school group could visit Spain’s main national art museum, Museo del Prado, and discover masterpieces by Velázquez, Rubens, Goya, El Greco. This museum is considered to have one of the world’s finest collections of European art, dating from the 12th century to the early 20th century. The collection comprises around 8,200 drawings, 7,600 paintings, 4,800 prints, and 1,000 sculptures, in addition to many other works of art and historic documents. The best-known work on display at the museum is ‘Las Meninas’ by Velázquez.
Museo Reina Sofia
Museo Reina Sofia is Spain’s national museum of 20th-century art and displays excellent collections of Spain’s two greatest 20th-century masters, Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí. The most famous masterpiece in the museum is Picasso’s painting ‘Guernica’. The museum offers a mixture of national and international temporary exhibitions in its many galleries, making it one of the world’s largest museums for modern and contemporary art.
Santiago Bernabéu Stadium
The Santiago Bernabéu Stadium is a football stadium in Madrid, Spain and has been the home stadium of Real Madrid since its completion in 1947. It is one of the world’s most famous football venues. It has hosted four of the European Cup/UEFA Champions League finals, the 1964 European Nations’ Cup final and the 1982 FIFA World Cup, making it the first stadium in Europe to host both a UEFA Euro final and a FIFA World Cup final.
