  1. Day 1 Depart the UK
    Depart the UK and arrive in Quito in the afternoon. Upon arrival your driver will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel in Quito.
  2. Day 2 Quito
    Take breakfast and visit the Churches: Plaza de la Independencia, Sagrario, Compañía, San Francisco, Panecillo and Basilica. Continue to Pululahua Crater, home to a small agricultural community, you will take lunch at Crater Restaurant. After lunch visit the monument to the Equator. Later you will visit the Intiñan Museum. Here you will be able to participate in a series of experiments that can only be done at Latitude 0°.
  3. Day 3 Chocolate Route
    After breakfast depart to Pahuma Reserve and visit Mindo’s butterfly farm. You will then travel to Quetzal Mindo where you can see the process of how chocolate is made from ”bean to bar”, lunch included. Continue to Bellavista Cloud Forest where you can see humming birds. Drive back to Quito, where you will have dinner at the URKO Restaurant.
  4. Day 4 Cotopaxi National Park
    After breakfast enjoy a day trip to Cotopaxi volcano, in Cotopaxi National Park. Departing from Quito, admire the beautiful Andes mountain range and enjoy a day away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Tour includes: Lunch Box, transportation and a professional guide. Visit the Flower-growing walk. Tonight you will stay at Puyo El Jardin.
  5. Day 5 Kapawi Amazon Lodge
    Travel to Shell. Breakfast (Lunch Box) will be provided for every passenger. Short stops will be made during the trip for bathroom breaks and photo opportunities. Arrival in Shell. You will be welcomed by Achuar representatives and will be assisted onto small planes. The 50-minute flight from Shell will pass over unbroken pristine rainforest, arriving at the airstrip of the local Achuar community. There you will be welcomed by Kapawi guides, who will escort you on the final leg of your journey, a beautiful 30-minute canoe ride into the majesty and tranquillity of the rainforest. Lunch at Kapawi Amazon Lodge. After lunch guests will have the opportunity to relax, unpack, and situate themselves with the surroundings. Enjoy a quiet activity where you can walk along one of the Pastaza River beaches. Here guides will give guests an introductory orientation session with information about the rainforest and the Achuar culture, while enjoying a beautiful sunset. Explore the Kapawari River in search of nocturnal animals such as monkeys, alligators and birds. All this coupled with a fantastic starry sky.
  6. Day 6 Kapawi Amazon Lodge
    Take a 30-minute motor boat ride to reach one of the best natural attractions, the Claylick, where you will see different species of parrots, macaws, and parrots such as the Cobalt-Winged Parakeet, Chestnut- Fronted Macaw, Yellow Crowned Amazon. After breakfast you can take a walk, approximately 2 hours with stops, to learn about medicinal plants of the area and tropical forest ecology. You will be able to explore, via kayak, the Kapawari River and its connecting lagoons, while looking at the local wildlife such as the pink river dolphin. As the river is quite calm, swimming is completely safe. Take a spectacular night walk, observing the many different kinds of insects and amphibians that are found around the hotel.
  7. Day 7 Kapawi Amazon Lodge
    You will have the opportunity to find and spotting the great variety of birds that the southeast Rainforest of Ecuador offers like Hoatzin, Aninga, Speckled Chachalaca, White Eared Jacamar, Cocoi Heron, Neotropical Cormorant, and the Great Egret. Travel along the Pitzacocha or Pama trail. During this time you can learn about the forest and its benefits for the Achuar people. The guides will also teach you about Achuar hunting techniques and Arutam the spirit of the forest. Visit one of the Achuar communities that is located close to the lodge. This is one of our most popular activities offered in Kapawi, because of the significant cultural contribution to the Achuar people. Guests will have a chance to see a community and its members and purchase some traditional handicrafts. Return to the lodge followed by dinner.
  8. Day 8 Kapawi Amazon Lodge
    In the last few hours before departure from the Achuar territory you can participate in a blowgun contest to demonstrate who is the best hunter among the guides and guests. Fly back to Shell and view San Rafael Waterfalls. Continue to Papallacta Hot Spring to relax in the thermal pools. Return to Quito along the same route as the arrival, dinner and overnight at Casa de Hacienda Jimenita.
  9. Day 9 Travel home
    Travel to Quito for your return flight back to the UK.

    A haven for nature and bird enthusiasts, this cloud forest opened in 2001 and is a non-profit conservation organisation.
  4. Pahuma Reserve Ecuador
    Pahuma Reserve consists of magnificent cloud forests that are blanketed in spectacular flower and plant life, including various species of orchids such as the mosses, bromeliads and ferns complimented by three calming waterfalls found within the El Pahuma Orchid Reserve. You can enjoy a variety of trails leading through the reserve, of which some differ in the length and difficulty.
  5. Quito Ecuador
    The capital of Ecuador is situated at the Andean foothills and is famous for its colonial centre mixing European and indigenous styles. The is the access point for trips throughout Ecuador and the Galapagos.
  6. Otavalo Ecuador
    One of most visited indigenous markets, rich in traditions and customs that allows you to enjoy the typical, colourful handcrafts and feasts, as well as showing off the fascinating environment and spectacular Andean mountains.
